Revel Outdoors Shouldham Enduro - Race Details

EVENT DATE: Sunday, 16th September, 2018

The Revel Outdoors Shouldham Six Hour Enduro, hosted by King’s Lynn MTB Club, takes place on Sunday 16th September, with racing from 10am til 4pm. Held over multiple laps of a course designed by KL MTB, this event is a popular Cross Country Endurance mountain bike race in the Eastern region for solos, pairs and teams of 3. The venue is King’s Lynn MTB’s local grounds, Shouldham Warren, just south of King’s Lynn, Norfolk.

Come and test your legs on the short, sharp climbs, sweeping single-track, thrilling descents and the fast open fire-roads that Shouldham has to offer!

  • Pairs – Male, Female & Mixed
  • Team of 3 – Male, Female and Mixed

Please note: Riders must be 18 years or older to compete in this event.

This 6 hour endurance event will be sponsored by Revel Outdoors. There will be podium prizes for the top 3 riders/teams in all categories decided upon by the most completed laps within the six hour time limit. All podium prizes, plus the fastest lap prize, will be provided by Revel Outdoors.

Timing will be provided by Timelaps.

Race Venue: Shouldham Warren

Shouldham Warren is managed by the Forestry Commission. It has a unique terrain for Norfolk, lots of short sharp hills, with well-draining soil. The forest is used by the general public, so please be courteous to all users. The entrance road into the forest is tarmac; parking will be along a fire road to the right as you enter. This will be signposted; directional arrows will be in place for the way out - please follow them. There will be additional parking in the public carpark, but this will be limited. There will be no overnight parking or camping.

Race Rules

The race will be run under British Cycling guidelines under the supervision of BC Commissaries. It will be a non-ranking event.

  • Each rider must complete 2 laps during the event
  • All riders must be 18 years or older to compete in this event
  • Teams and pairs riders go out individually, in relay, in any order and can either change over or continue after each lap.
  • Change over must only be in the Transition Area which will be fenced off as a separate section after the Timelaps / Finish line.
  • You must hand over the Wristband on the changeover, the rider out on the course must have the band with them.
  • The winners will be decided by (1) the most laps completed in the time (2) the quickest time achieved.
  • All laps must be completed by 16:00, any laps finished after this time will not be counted.
  • There will be a Solo Pit area on the opposite side of the fire road to the Team Transition Area.
  • All riders who start a lap must finish it - they must not take any shortcuts. They have to complete the full lap to stay in the race.
  • If you suffer a mechanical problem then proceed around the course to the next Marshall, who will then inform the race director. Other riders on the course may offer help by way of parts and equipment, but the rider must carry out their own repairs.
  • Please ensure that your bike is in good working order, and bar end-plugs are fitted and secure. Please carry spare tubes, a multi tool and pump.
  • Do not drop any energy bar, energy gel wrappers or rubbish of any kind out on the course. There will be specific drop areas around the track - please use them.
  • Riders must stay within the marker tapes. Where it has not been possible or practical to erect course tape then riders must stick to the obvious trail.
  • Unsporting behaviour, foul and abusive language, course cutting and cheating of any kind will not be tolerated. If this is reported then that rider/riders if solo, or the whole team will be excluded from the race.
  • All riders must wear a helmet when riding their bikes, including warm up and riding around all other areas.

How to Enter

All entries will be online via the British Cycling website. The categories will be:-

  • Solo Male and Female
  • Pairs Male and Female
  • Team of three Male and Female
  • Mixed Teams (Pairs and Teams of three will compete together for the same prize)

Entries fees are non-refundable, entries will close at midnight on the 9th September 2018. The names of all the competitors must be confirmed by midnight 30th August.

If the race is cancelled within 24 hours of the start, for reasons out of the organisers control then all online entry fees will be refunded.

The total number of entries will be capped at 250 riders - this does mean places will sell out!

Registration, Practice Laps and Start/Finish

  • Registration (07:30 - 09:30): Registration will be in the marquee. You will be given your registration pack after you have signed on.
  • Practice (08:00 - 09:30): The course will be open for practice but please remember at this time there will be no marshalls or medics out on the course, so please ride carefully. Remember the forest is open to the general public at all times.
  • Race Start (10:00): The race will be mass start, at approximately 10.00 in the morning
  • Race Finish (16:00): The race will run until 16:00 (6 hours). The last lap must be started before 16:00; any rider going out on the course after this - the lap will not be counted. Teams and Pairs please remember your wristband!!

Course Map

The course will be approximately 6 miles long; the map will be posted on race day.

Prize Presentation

The prize presentation will be after all the competitors have finished the race. There will be prizes for the top 3 places in each category.

Toilets and Catering

Toilets will be provided

There will be no water on site, so please ensure you bring enough for your needs for the whole day.

The KLMTB Tea and cake stand will be available during the day - there will be no other catering. There is also a pub in the village of Shouldham who do very good food and welcome all MTB cyclists.
